This site is dedicated to the memory of Derek Townsend.

We sadly lost Dad this year but I will always remember his passion for sailing. He first became interested in the early seventies when he bought his first boat - a kit for a Norfolk Nipper - which he lovingly built in the garage at the bottom of the garden in Empire Avenue, Edmonton, north London. He was so proud of his achievement and showed it off to the neighbours by putting it on a trailer and "mooring" it in the front garden for all to see! He named her after Mum - Rose of Barton, and lovingly nurtured her, mooring her in the harbour at Brixham in Devon. Unfortunately during a colossal storm Rose of Barton was thrashed against the breakwater and holed. Dad was devastated as it had taken years for him to build her, although he never really showed his feelings. As the years went by, so did his ownership of different boats and latterly he moored Fritha in Woodbridge, Suffolk on the river Deben. My sister Sue, nieces Emma and Irian, myself and son Chris and, of course Mum, were all privvy to sailing holidays which we thoroughly enjoyed. Even a couple of my best friends, Mary and Fuzz, "enjoyed (or not!)" their little jaunt to Brixham on Andrea's Dad's boat!! Happy days. It's now four years since we lost Dad and not a day goes by when I don't think about him. He would have been 88 now. God Bless my Daddy.
